What Madalina Means

10 octombrie 2007

Given the fact that I’ve had in my search engine list “what Madalina means” I thought it would be interesting to explain to you what my name means.

Madalina (in my language the correct version is “Mădălina”) is the Romanian adaptation of the French Madeleine. Madeleine is the French translation of Magdalene (the biblical form of Latin Magdalena) which literally means “of Magdala”; you see, Mary Magdalene’s name was not Mary Magdalene but simply Mary; however it became the well-known Mary Magdalene because she was in reality Mary from/of Magdala (the city of Magdala was two miles north of Tiberias, along the lakeshore). Therefore, (in Romania) Magdalena and Mădălina are in fact the same name.

Thank you.
